In short

Reel Drawer is a private library for the videos, GIFs, images and screen recordings you want to keep. This policy covers the app for iPhone and iPad and the app for Android. Your clips stay on your devices and, on iOS if you use iCloud sync, in your own iCloud. The Android app has no internet permission. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. We cannot see your clips or anything you do in the app.

What the app stores, and where

What Where
Your clips (video, GIF and image files) On your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet
Titles, tags, collections, smart collections On your device
The search index: what is said in a clip, text shown on screen, scene and sound labels Created and stored on your device
The date and place stored in a clip’s file, if it has them Read from the file and stored with the clip on your device
Posters and short previews Created and stored on your device
Which clips you sent, when and in which format (for “Recently shared”) On your device

On iOS, the library lives in the app’s storage and in an App Group container that the app’s Share extension and its Messages app also use, so they can reach the same library. On Android, the library lives in the app’s private storage. Nothing of this is sent to us.

iCloud sync (iOS only)

The Android app has no cloud sync. Its library stays on the device.

On iOS, Reel Drawer can keep your library the same on all your iPhones and iPads that use the same Apple Account. Sync is on when you are signed in to iCloud; you can turn it off in Reel Drawer → Settings → iCloud.

  • Sync uses Apple’s CloudKit and stores your library in the private database of your own iCloud account. This data belongs to your Apple Account and counts against your iCloud storage.
  • We (the developer) cannot read your private iCloud data. The information about your clips is stored in encrypted fields.
  • Apple processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
  • To delete the synced data, turn sync off and remove Reel Drawer’s data in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage. The clips on your device stay.

Without iCloud (signed out, or sync turned off), the app keeps everything on the device only.

Speech, text and image recognition

  • To make clips searchable, Reel Drawer recognises what is said in a clip, the text on screen, the scene and sounds such as music or applause.
  • iOS: the app uses Apple’s on-device frameworks Speech, Vision and Sound Analysis. For speech recognition in a language, iOS may download Apple’s language model for that language. That download comes from Apple and contains no data from your clips. iOS asks for your permission before the app uses speech recognition; without it, clips are still searchable by title, tags, text on screen, scenes and sounds.
  • Android: the app uses on-device models inside the app: Google ML Kit (text and scenes), MediaPipe (sounds) and a Whisper speech model. Google Play downloads the Whisper model once, the first time speech search needs it. That download comes from Google Play and contains no data from your clips. Google handles it under its own terms: policies.google.com/privacy.
  • All of this runs on your device. Your audio, video and the results are not sent to us or to anyone else.

Photos and files

  • Importing: You pick the items in the system photo picker (on iOS Apple’s picker, on Android the Android photo picker or Files). The app receives only the items you pick and needs no access to the rest of your library for this.
  • Deleting originals: After an import from the photo picker, the app can offer to delete the originals from your photo library to free space. It does this only when you confirm, and the system asks you to confirm again. On iOS, deleted items go to “Recently Deleted” in Photos; on Android, to the trash of your gallery app (Android 11 and later; on Android 10 you delete them yourself in the gallery).
  • Live Photos (iOS only): A Live Photo you import can become a video (its motion with sound), a photo, or both – you choose. When you save a Live Photo through the share sheet, only its still picture arrives. If you then tap “Add the motion”, the app asks for access to your photo library to find that Live Photo and read its motion. It reads only that item.
  • On iOS you can change or remove Photos access at any time in iOS Settings → Reel Drawer → Photos. The Android app asks for no photo library permission.

Clipboard

When your clipboard holds a video, GIF or image, the app shows a “Paste” banner. It checks only the kind of content, not the content itself; it reads the content only after you tap Paste.

Sharing clips

You can share a clip from any app to Reel Drawer to save it. When you send a clip (with the share sheet, or on iOS the Reel Drawer app in Messages), you choose where it goes. The receiving app or person handles it under their own privacy terms. We do not see where you send a clip. If you choose GIF or a smaller video, the app converts the clip on your device first.

Purchases

  • Reel Drawer Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. On iOS, Apple processes it through the App Store. On Android, Google processes it through Google Play Billing.
  • We do not receive your name, your Apple Account or Google Account, or your payment details. The app asks Apple or Google on your device whether Pro is unlocked.

What we do not collect

We do not collect any data from the app. In particular we collect no device identifiers, no IP addresses, no location, no contacts, no usage analytics and no crash reports of our own. The app contains no advertising and no analytics SDKs. The recognition libraries of the Android app run inside the app; with no internet permission, the Android app cannot send data anywhere.

If you allow it in iOS (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us. On Android, Google Play may share crash and performance statistics with us (Android vitals) if you allow usage and diagnostics in your Google settings. These reports are aggregated or anonymised by Apple or Google and contain none of your clips.

Because we do not collect or process personal data about you on our side, we hold no data about you that we could show, correct or delete. Everything the app stores is on your devices and, on iOS with sync, in your own iCloud, where you control it:

  • Delete single clips, collections or tags in the app.
  • Delete all of the app’s data on a device by deleting the app.
  • On iOS, delete the synced data in your iCloud settings (see “iCloud sync”).

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For questions, contact us (see below).

Children

Reel Drawer is not directed at children under 13. We do not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, we update this policy and the date at the top, and mention it in the App Store and Google Play release notes.
